A second language, without a second job
Geneva is full of families raising children in more than one language, and Wednesday and the holidays are when most of that happens. Here is what exists.

Start earlier than you think
13 of the 54 take a child under four, which is unusually high and is the single most useful fact on this page. At that age a second language costs a child no effort at all, and this is the only category where the under-fours provision is proportionally strong.
10 take four to six year olds.
Camps are a real option
10 of these are holiday camps rather than weekly classes. A week of immersion in the school holidays does more than a term of Wednesday afternoons, and it solves a childcare problem at the same time.
Where to look
Italian at Communes-Ecole in Collonge-Bellerive. Spanish through the Spanish embassy in Lancy. English clubs and full day camps at Key English School and Bell.
Collonge-Bellerive punches far above its size here, with 16 of the 54, almost entirely through its municipal school programme.
More arriving every week
English, Italian and Spanish are well covered today, and the list grows every week as more schools come on board.
Geneva has heritage language schools in a dozen languages, and we are adding them as fast as we find them. If you run one, tell us and we will list it. A lot of parents are looking for you.
The things parents actually ask
What languages can my child learn in Geneva?
English is the most widely available, then Italian and Spanish. 54 activities in total across 7 communes.
What age should we start?
Earlier than most parents think. 13 activities take children under four, which is proportionally the strongest under-four provision of any category.
Are there language camps in the holidays?
10, which is a high share for a category this size. A week of immersion does more than a term of weekly lessons.
Where are the language schools?
Italian at Communes-Ecole in Collonge-Bellerive, Spanish through the Spanish embassy in Lancy, English at Key English School and Bell.
What about German, Russian or Arabic?
Geneva has schools in all three and we are adding them week by week. If you run one, tell us and we will list it.
