Sport is the one thing you can find close to home almost anywhere around the lake. It has the widest geographic spread of anything we list, the most evening sessions, and the most for teenagers.

It is not all in town
Genève has 82, which for once is not most of it. Meyrin has 30, Thônex 27, Petit-Lancy 25.
29 communes altogether. If you want a sport your child can walk or cycle to on their own, this is the only category where that is realistic.
Martial arts, then water
Martial arts is the biggest group by a distance, covering aikido, judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, karate and grappling. Then swimming, football, gymnastics and climbing.
Athletics and multi-sport come next, and multi-sport is the sensible answer if your child has not picked anything yet.
Sailing is the local advantage nobody uses. There are lessons on the lake, including autumn courses at Club Nautique de Versoix, and almost no parents think to look.
The best category for teenagers
179 sports activities take 13 and over, more than anything except music. Climbing and martial arts in particular suit a teenager who has gone off team games, and both take complete beginners at that age.
And the best for holidays
30 sports camps run across the area, more than any other category. If you are covering February or October, start here.
Evenings, which is unusual
Sport runs later in the day than anything else we list. If you work full time and cannot manage a 16:30 pickup, this is the category built for you.
